Lost your yoga mojo?

There’s many reasons why you might have stopped practicing yoga.

Maybe you’ve been on holiday & haven’t gotten back into your normal routine yet or, a new job means you don’t have time to practice or can no longer get to your favourite class, you could be nursing an injury or, perhaps you’ve simply lost your yoga mojo.

Whatever the reason if yoga was something you once loved isn’t it worth giving it another go?

After all, our bodies are the only thing we ever truly own so how we use them is the most valuable & important thing.

We’d love to help you get back on the mat so let’s see if any of our tips help get you there …..

  1. Reflect back on how much your yoga practice developed since you first stepped on a mat. Can you remember how great it felt when you managed to get through a whole  class without having to take a rest?  Or, the first time you held a pose way longer than before or, when you finally cracked a challenging asana without falling?   Achievements definitely worth being proud of.
  2. Think about how great yoga made you feel – physically, mentally & emotionally and how, when you had a regular practice, you made healthier choices off the yoga mat too?
  1. Change it up. It’s easy to get bored doing the same thing so try something new:
  • Slow your practice down & do it with more awareness so you notice the subtle feedback from your body
  • Practice with (or without) music
  • Sign up to a new class with a teacher you’ve not practiced with before. You might do familiar postures but hearing different cues & phrases can change everything

And, if you can’t get to a real life class, do things differently in your  home practice such as :

  • Hold standing postures for longer
  • Challenge yourself to try new asanas
  • Try holding a posture for less time on your stronger side & more time on your weaker side
  • Don’t worry about vinyasas for a while if you don’t feel strong enough just yet
  1. Skip asanas altogether.  Sometimes taking a break from what we normally do is just what’s needed so how about skipping asanas for a while & focus instead on pranayama & meditation?
  2. Research your favourite postures. Understand them from a mythical, anatomical and therapeutic perspective rather than performing them on auto pilot.
  3. Get ready the night before. Roll your mat out before you go to bed so it’s there waiting for you when you wake up.  Commit to just 15mins of practice before you get on with your day & see how it feels in your body.
  4. Consider going on a yoga retreat.   As organisers of yoga retreats you’d expect us to say this! but, its so easy for everyday life to become busy & so overwhelming that it’s difficult to fit in a yoga practice on top of everything else. That’s why going on a yoga retreat is a brilliant way to immerse yourself again in a daily yoga practice with new teachers whilst staying in a completely new environment with like-minded people.  And the best bit?  You don’t have to rush off after class as you would do at home .. on a yoga retreat you can sit & bask in the after class glow!

Check out our latest retreat schedule & let us know if we can tell you anything to help you get your yoga mojo back.
